Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where morning people are made. I'm Tyler, your host, as always, and I'm so glad to have you here with me. Friends, the world is filled with so many great things. There's so much to be excited about on a daily basis. But unfortunately, negativity tends to be louder than positivity.
Starting point is 00:00:44 Partially, this is just the way we're wired as humans. It's true. As a general rule, our brains are designed to focus on avoiding negative stimuli over-gravitating towards positive ones. And you see this playing out in daily life all the time. The news largely reports on negative things, crime, corruption, bad weather, and the same is true of social media. People tend to complain about their problems a lot louder and a lot more often than they rejoice in their successes. But you know what? Every day, great things happen.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Every day, there's beautiful weather somewhere. Every day, progress is made. and every day people choose to treat each other with respect and care. The truth is, in each moment, there's something positive going on in your life. So why not focus your mind on that instead of the bad things? Certainly, it will put you in a better mood. And it doesn't mean we should ignore our problems. But the reason we address problems and fix them is to make our lives better, right?
Starting point is 00:02:09 So friends, let's spend our morning, our day, and hopefully our lives being voices for good, spreading positive vibes everywhere we go. A more positive world starts with a few people who choose to be louder about the good than the bad. You and me, we can lead the world with positivity. And the best way to do that is to begin by treating ourselves with a little love, support, and self-care. So what do you say? Let's get up, get this great day started with a quick stretch and a little meditation. If you're in bed, take a deep breath in, and on your exhale, roll over,
Starting point is 00:03:06 and make your way to standing up. All right, friends, now that we're all up and out of bed, let's do a quick stretch. And you should only take part in this if you're physically able. Please, be careful and don't hurt yourself. And of course, if you want to do a different stretch, by all means, go for it. This is your morning.
Starting point is 00:03:41 If you're going to come with me, then open your arms out wide. Reach your hands toward the opposite walls of the room. Feel a nice spread across your chest. Wrap your arms around yourself. Give yourself a big hug. Show yourself a little love this morning. And as you reach around, giving yourself a hug,
Starting point is 00:04:08 you can feel the stretch across your back. Let's do this a couple more times with the breath now. So inhale, reach your arms out wide, stretch towards the walls. Feel the opening across your chest. And then exhale. Wrap your arms around yourself. Feel the stretch across your back.
Starting point is 00:04:37 In between your shoulder blades. Once more now, inhale, reaching towards the walls, and exhale. Wrap yourself up. Great. Relax your arms back down. And now take a big inhale and reach towards the ceiling. Reach all the way out of your shoulders. Stand up on your tippy toes if you want.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Get as high as you can. And then on your exhale, Lower your feet back down flat and fold forward at your waist. Let everything hang and relax towards the ground. Release your neck. Let it soften. And I like to have a nice bend in my knee and sway side to side here. But you can do whatever you want.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Explore this pose and try to find how it feels best for you. Make sure you keep breathing while you do that. So you deliver fresh oxygen to your muscles. All right, now slowly roll all the way back up to standing. And when you get there, roll your shoulders up, back, and down. Fantastic. So if you want to do more stretches, by all means, go for it. You can always press pause and come back whenever you're ready.
Starting point is 00:06:33 For everyone else, go ahead and find a comfortable seat anywhere in your home, just not in your bed. feel free to grab a sip of water or use the bathroom along the way. It's time for our meditation. And today, we're going to do something really simple that draws on gratitude and positive forces in your life to help you feel like you're surrounded by good things. This kind of positivity practice, if done routinely, either on your own or with something like this show,
Starting point is 00:07:09 will truly rewire your brain. So you see everything in your life in a better light. All right, hopefully you've found a nice comfortable seat and you want to be sitting upright. But try not to hold on to any tension. Allow yourself to relax. Take a deep breath in and on your exhale, slowly close your eyes.
Starting point is 00:07:52 Let's take a few deep breaths together to help settle in. So inhale, Fill all the way into your belly. Hold it at the top. And then release. Inhale. Hold it at the top. Exhale.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Three more of these. Inhale. Hold. Inhale. Hold. Release. Last one. Inhale.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Hold it. Take one more sip of hair in. And exhale. Now you can fall back. into your own natural breathing pattern, whatever depth and speed feels right to you. And just follow the rise and fall of your chest. Feel the air moving in and out of you. And as you do that, you'll slowly draw deeper and deeper within.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Now that you're nice and settled in, bring to mind something positive going on in your life right now. A relationship you have, a hobby, maybe even your job. And remember that positive doesn't mean perfect. Acknowledge where this positive thing came from. Did you seek it out? Did it find you? Or maybe was it some combination of the two? Let the goodness of this positive force envelop you right now in this moment.
Starting point is 00:10:52 allow it to fill your body and mind. Appreciate that you have this positive force in your life. There are tons of negative things out there. But this thing is helping you. It's bringing you smiles and good vibes. So send it a silent thank you for being a part of your life. All right. You can let that go.
Starting point is 00:11:45 And just come back to your breath. Follow that rise and fall for another moment or two. And just let your mind unwind. All right, friends, it's time to wrap up our meditation now. So begin to bring yourself back into the room, back into your body. Feel your feet on the floor. And notice the chair beneath you. You can give your fingers and toes a little wiggle
Starting point is 00:13:20 and take a deep breath in and as you exhale, Slowly open your eyes and just take a second to gather yourself. So often, it seems like the world defaults toward negativity. And to a degree, paying attention to the negative is important. By acknowledging and assessing problems, we're able to fix them and progress forward. But the danger comes in focusing on the negative. We should not let the negative voices in the world be the loudest. Anger, sadness, resentment, frustration.
Starting point is 00:14:27 They're all quick to yell and complain. Positivity tends to be quiet, resilient, stoic, because positivity has the inner strength to deal with negativity. Good isn't an attention seeker, bad is. So don't let the loud voices in the world or even in your own head fool you. Because the simple truth about the world we live in today is this. By any objective measure, the world is exponentially better today than it has ever been before. That doesn't mean we don't have work to do, but it does mean that we should be grateful. It means that we should be grateful. It means
Starting point is 00:15:16 We should be optimistic. It means that we should appreciate the struggles and the sacrifices made by those who came before us, those who made it possible for us to live in this better world. And it means that we bear the responsibility of leading this world to an even better place. So, my friends, lead with positivity towards yourself and those around. around you. Be quick to show appreciation. Yes, acknowledge where there's room to grow,
Starting point is 00:15:54 but do that amidst a showing of gratitude. Every forward movement in history has begun just like this, with a relatively small group of people taking a stand for something. A few people who decide the world could be better. should be better. Today, my friend, choose to make the good in your life louder than the bad.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Move yourself and the world forward to a better place by leading with positivity. Thank you so much for tuning in today and joining me for this episode. I hope you've enjoyed it and that it's filled you with good vibes. I'll talk to you,
