Welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast, where morning people are made. It's such a wonderful day, and I'm so glad to have you here with me. Today, we'll be looking into the mirror, right at ourselves. not to point out flaws, but to find inspiration. So let's go ahead and jump right in today.
Starting point is 00:00:45 If you're listening in from bed, go ahead and open your eyes if you haven't done that already. And let's take three big breaths together. So inhale, hold at the top, and then exhale. Again, even deeper this time. Inhale, hold at the top, and then exhale. Exhale. Last one together, even deeper. Inhale. Hold and exhale. Great. Now stick with those deep breaths for another moment or so. And feel free to take a stretch in bed. Do whatever you want to do to enjoy this last
Starting point is 00:01:53 moment of quiet before the day begins. Now, today's episode is all about looking in the mirror. seeing ourselves objectively in the here and now. It's something that can be really hard to do. I know I struggle to do it all the time. Speaking for myself, I am routinely startled when I look in the mirror for the first time each day. And that's because I get the most insane bedhead you've ever seen. I don't know what I do when I sleep, but apparently it doesn't turn out well for my hair in the mornings. And while my crazy bedhead is totally true, I don't want to make light of the real point here,
Starting point is 00:02:42 which is that what you see when you look in the mirror matters. In fact, your own view of yourself is all that matters. What others think can be helpful to know. It can often show us how to improve ourselves. But ultimately, the only opinion of you that matters is yours. And that's because the only person who determines your happiness and your fulfillment in life is you. So today we'll let go of any of the negative voices in our heads and instead we'll listen to ourselves. We'll look into the mirror and see who we really are today,
Starting point is 00:03:28 along with all of the potential and inspiration that will lead us to who we want to become. So on that note, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, roll over in bed, and make your way to standing up. Now that you're up, go to the nearest mirror in your house. And if you don't have one, that's okay. You can use the camera on your phone. Once you've found that mirror, take this moment just to look at yourself. absorb that person you're looking at right now, even if they have some crazy bedhead, and try not to judge that person.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Rather, seek to understand them. Who are they? What do they care about? What are their biggest strengths? What are their biggest weaknesses? And lastly, where does their untapped potential lie? Great. So we'll come back to this.
Starting point is 00:05:36 mirror shortly. But for now, let's take a few minutes for a quick meditation. So, find a comfortable seat anywhere in your home, just not in your bed. And feel free to grab water or do anything like that along the way. This meditation will help with two things. First, it will help you to appreciate yourself for who you are right now as you sit here today. And second, it will help you to see the potential in yourself, to become the person you really hope to be. Life is not stagnant, and we're ever-changing people. So by creating this vision of who we are today and who we want to become, we can better chart the path forward towards that future we desire.
Starting point is 00:06:37 So by now you should be in a nice comfortable seat, and you want to be seated upright, but Allow yourself to relax. Let's take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, slowly close your eyes. Follow that natural rise and fall of your breath, and as you do that, you'll slowly begin to draw deeper and deeper within. All right, now that you're settled in, bring to mind one of your favorite qualities about yourself, a beloved quality of the you,
Starting point is 00:08:06 that sits here today. Maybe it's a skill set you've developed, like writing or cooking or athletics. Or maybe it's an aspect of your personality, like being caring or hardworking. Whatever it is, bring that quality to mind and see yourself expressing that quality in whatever ways, shapes, and forms.
Starting point is 00:08:42 it appears. See how this quality brings out the better parts of you. See how it encourages you to challenge yourself. See how it's brought to you new relationships and opportunities. And now, enjoy a little bit of appreciation for yourself, for having and honing this quality, and for offering that bit of yourself to the world. All right, now you can let that image go. And in its place, bring to mind something that you'd like to be more of. Maybe it's an aspect of your personality that you've repressed for some reason, or a skill you're yet to fully develop. See yourself expressing that quality in whatever ways you might do so. See how pursuing more of this quality within yourself would make you better. See how it will encourage and challenge you.
Starting point is 00:11:02 see how it will bring you to new people and new opportunities. And now, enjoy a little bit of appreciation for yourself, for having this aspiration within you, for having the desire to become something more. Okay, now you can let that go, and just bring yourself back to following your breath for a moment. All right, now slowly bring yourself back into the room, Notice the chair beneath you and your feet on the floor,
Starting point is 00:13:04 and perhaps there are some sounds going on around you in the room. Wiggle your fingers and toes, and then take a deep breath in. As you exhale, slowly open your eyes, and just take a second to gather yourself. You are so full of untapped potential, my friend. There's a wealth of opportunity lying within, awaiting the moment when it's accessed. You just have to do it.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Now, I can tell you all of this, remind you of all of your potential, and get you excited about being yourself. But it will be way more effective and meaningful if you do it for yourself. So make your way back to that mirror, which you were at before. Today, we're going to repeat some affirmations
Starting point is 00:14:36 to help you tap into all of your potential. So stand in front of a mirror, look yourself right in the eyes, and repeat after me. I am worthy. I am deserving. When I choose to look at myself honestly, I understand who I am and what I want. I accept myself with all of my strengths and weaknesses. I have a wealth of knowledge and skills. I am nowhere near.
Starting point is 00:15:35 of my potential. I have so much room to grow. I have so much to offer. My dreams and goals are worth pursuing. The only opinion of me that matters is my own. I choose to unleash my untapped potential. I choose to be the best version of myself. I challenge myself to chase my dreams. I challenge myself to be the person I wish to be. Instead of dreaming about who I want to be, I'm going to start living that way. My friend, you have so much to offer, so much potential,
Starting point is 00:17:11 and so much happiness and fulfillment to gain by nourishing that potential. So I hope you do that today. And if you do, then you might just come back to this mirror tonight. to see a whole new person. A person you've only dreamt of being. Until now.
