Hi everyone, and welcome to Wake Me Up.
I'm Tyler, your host.
And this is the podcast where morning people are made.
Life can be tiring.
Some days, we wake up feeling tired already, but we still have to show up and do our best.
lest we lose the opportunities of the day.
Whether today is one of those days for you or not,
this morning routine is designed to fill you with energy
so you can be refreshed and recharged to be the best version of yourself.
Now let's not waste a single moment.
We're going to do quite a bit of breathing today,
because as you all know by now,
oxygen is the best way to wake the body and fill it with fresh energy.
So wherever you are, if you're in bed or if you're already up and about, take a big breath in.
Hold it and then exhale.
Let it all go.
Don't hold it back.
We're going to do this a couple more times and let's make each one deeper than the last.
So inhale again, filling up a little bit more than last time.
Hold it at the top and then release.
Don't force it.
Just let it fall out.
Inhale again, a little bit deeper, hold it at the top, and exhale.
Again, just letting it go.
And let's do one more even deeper this time.
Inhale, pause at the top, and exhale.
So we're going to open the body up now a little bit,
and you can do this standing or lying down.
It doesn't matter.
But inhale and spread your arms and legs out wide,
as far as you can in all directions.
and then exhale and release.
Let them come back to normal.
And let's do that one more time,
so inhale and stretch all the way out in all directions,
and then exhale and release.
Great.
Now, what's one reason you have to dig deep for some energy today?
We all have goals we want to reach,
people we want to be there for.
What is the source of motivation for you to show up today?
rest your mind on that thing or that person.
Feel the fulfillment you'll get by showing up today.
Notice how when you're focused on this thing,
you aren't focused on any lack of energy you might have.
You're focused just on doing your best.
So if at any time this morning or throughout the day,
you're lacking motivation, you're lacking energy.
Remember this.
Remember why you're showing you.
up. It will always be a way to find a bit more energy. Now let's not linger around any longer.
Life is a gift and it's fleeting. So let's enjoy this precious opportunity while we have it.
Take a big breath in and as you exhale if you're in bed, roll over and make your way to standing up.
Now that we're all standing, let's do some more stretch.
to wake the body.
And you should only join in these if you're physically able.
Of course, if there's something else you want to do,
then by all means, do that instead.
We're going to take our usual stretches
and put them into a bit of a series today
so that we're moving and breathing at the same time.
It's nothing new, so just follow along.
Take an inhale and reach all the way to the sky.
Reach your hands as far as you can,
and on your exhale, fold forward at the waist.
Let everything hang, take an inhale again, and an exhale.
And on your next inhale, roll back up, and then reach again all the way to the sky.
And then exhale and fold forward again.
Hang out.
Take another inhale and an exhale.
And on your next inhale, roll all the way back up.
Reach to the sky again.
Reach all the way out of your shoulder.
shoulders. And on your exhale, fold forward. Relax into the stretch. Take another inhale and release,
and then inhale once more and roll all the way back up, reaching again as far as you can towards the
sky. Okay, relax your arms back down. And exhale, roll your shoulders out and continue breathing
while you do that. Okay. Now, use your nose and protect.
tend to draw big circles on the wall in front of you, so you're rolling your neck out.
Nice and slow. Go in one direction a couple of times. And then pause and go back in the other
direction a couple of times. Let everything relax. We've done some stretches. We've warmed up
the body and got some blood flowing. So let's sit down and do a quick meditation.
While you find your way there, of course, feel free to grab a sip of water, use the bathroom,
do anything like that.
Today we'll be doing a breathing exercise first,
followed by a simple visualization to help you dig deep.
You should be in a comfortable seat.
You can be sitting anywhere but your bed.
We don't want to go back to sleep.
Make sure you're sitting upright, nice and supported,
but allow your shoulders to relax.
Allow your face to relax.
Take a deep breath in
and close your eyes as you exhale.
So first things first, just make sure you're comfortable.
We don't want the body to be a distraction.
So make any adjustments or wiggle anything out that you need to.
And you can breathe at your own pace here.
Focus just on keeping that breath nice and smooth,
very effortless.
And just follow that rise and fall for a moment while you settle in.
Now we're going to do a simple breathing exercise.
On each breath, we'll inhale fully and then take three extra sips of air.
This helps to expand the lungs, maximizing your oxygen intake.
So release all of your air and inhale.
One, two, three, four.
Take three more big sips.
One, two, three, hold, and exhale.
Let it all go. Inhale again. One, two, three, four, sip, sip, sip, hold, and exhale. Again, inhale. One, two, three, four, add an extra sip, sip, sip, hold, and exhale. All right, last one, inhale.
three, four, and an extra sip, two, three.
Hold, exhale.
Okay, pause and breathe normally for a moment.
We'll reset, and then we'll do one more round of the same thing.
Okay, let's go one more time around.
Release all of your air and begin.
Inhale, one, two, three, four, sip, sip, sip.
Hold. Just let it all go out. Inhale. One, two, three, four. Sip. Sip. Hold. Release all of that air. Again, inhale. One, two, three, four. Extra sip. Two, three. Hold and exhale. Last one this time. Inhale. One, two, three.
Three, four, sip, sip, sip, hold.
And exhale.
Let it all go.
Fall back into your normal breathing rhythm.
Let everything relax again.
Your chest, your belly, your shoulders, your neck, your jaw, and your face.
And now, bring to mind a time when you were completely in the zone.
in a state of flow.
When you were totally absorbed in what you were doing,
maybe you were playing a sport or doing something creative,
time may have seemed to stand still.
Perhaps you even lost track of it entirely.
Put yourself back into your body in that moment.
Remember what it felt like in your body.
Remember how focused you were in that moment.
You may have been tired or exhausted,
but it didn't stop you.
You probably didn't even notice it.
There also may have been a whole host of other distractions,
but you didn't notice them either.
Let this memory be a lesson,
that you do have plenty of energy.
If you're focused on something that you're engaged in
and that you care about,
you will find the energy necessary for it.
I let that image go,
let yourself settle,
relax back into your breathing in its own normal rhythm
and just let your mind unwind for a moment.
Okay, bring yourself back to the room, back to your body.
Notice the chair beneath you, the air on your skin,
and your feet on the floor.
Take a big breath in, and as you exhale, open your eyes.
Take this moment and just gather yourself.
So hopefully you're now feeling a bit of a bit of a bit of.
more energized and clear of mind. It's time for today's send-off. We can't expect to be full of
energy every single day, but we can expect to maximize what we've got. How? By focusing. Energy is a
limited resource. If we waste it on distractions and unimportant things, then we'll be at a
disadvantage when chasing the goals we really care about. So hone in. What is it that
you really want from this day. Pick the one thing that's most important for you to accomplish
today and dig deep directly towards it. Don't waste time on tangential matters. There are times
when we have to show up and perform, even if we aren't at our best. But remember, it's these
moments of adversity when we are truly challenged that we're able to grow the most. So friends,
your energy today, stay focused, and dig deep.
There is a well of energy inside of you, waiting to be tapped.
You simply must focus it on the right thing in order to unleash it.
All right, that's all I've got for you today.
I really appreciate you tuning in this morning.
I have one small request to make before you head off into the day.
And that is to think of one person, a friend, a family member, a colleague,
who might enjoy Wake Me Up.
Send them one of your favorite episodes of the show.
A good morning is a wonderful gift to share.
You might just brighten their day,
and you will certainly brighten mine.
So thank you.
I'll talk to you all next week,
and until then, go out, dig deep, stay focused,
and have an absolutely fantastic day.
