Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up.
The podcast, where morning people are made.
This morning routine is designed to help you weed out negative influences in your life.
Now, there's a beautiful day starting.
Let's go ahead and dive right in.
Over the next few minutes, we'll slowly begin to wake ourselves up.
And you can just listen to my voice while that happens.
enjoy this moment just to take it easy
before you have anything else to do.
You can open your eyes
and roll onto your back.
Take a deep breath in,
pausing at the top,
before you exhale.
And just take some deep breaths like that
at your own pace.
And feel free to stretch out in bed
however you'd like.
We just want to get the body woken up a little bit.
Now today we're going to focus on weeding out
sources of negativity in our lives.
There's a saying that misery loves company.
And in my experience, I found it to be true.
Of course, this comes into life in obvious ways.
Everyone appreciates the chance to vent when they're angry or frustrated,
and everyone wants to be comforted when they're sad.
These are healthy ways of releasing those pressures, though.
I want to focus more on the subtle ways
that unhappy people throw their unhappiness on others.
Like that quote-unquote advice from family or friends,
that you shouldn't waste your time, you're not good enough for this or that.
You're better off spending at doing something else.
Or the boss who belittles their employees.
You see, everyone is marred with their own pains.
I'd venture to say that one of the deepest pains most people feel
is that they're living a life they don't love.
They spend all day doing a job that isn't meaningful to them.
They have superficial relationships.
And so they spend money on things to impress people
that they don't even care about.
And these people, when they see you being positive,
changing yourself for the better,
reaching for dreams that mean something to you,
their natural reaction is to shoot you down.
not because what you're doing is wrong,
but because they, for whatever reason,
are unwilling to do the same thing for themselves.
And they don't want to see you happy and growing and succeeding,
while they're sitting here repeating the same cycles of unhappiness.
Misery loves company.
Remember that today, if someone tries to bring you down,
it has nothing to do with you and everything,
to do with them. They're harboring resentment about something else. Instead of dealing with it,
they're releasing it on you, trying to keep you down with them. So repeat that with me. If someone
tries to bring me down, it has nothing to do with me and everything to do with them. Now on that
note, let's get this day started. Just take a big stretch in bed, one more before we get moving,
whatever feels good to you.
I like to reach for all four corners of my bed,
but you can do whatever you'd like.
And when you finish that stretch,
just take a big breath.
And when you let it go,
roll over in bed,
swing your feet around,
and place them on the ground,
and then stand on up.
