Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast, where morning people are made.
I'm Tyler, and I'm your host.
This morning routine will hopefully help you enjoy and appreciate the quieter moments in life a little bit more.
Now, let's go ahead and get today started.
As you wake up this morning, you can just listen to my voice.
while we take the next few minutes to get up.
And on your own time, you can open your eyes and roll onto your back.
And once you get there, take a couple of deep inhales and exhales.
A little oxygen goes a long way in waking your body up.
And while you lay there, enjoy this moment of rest and pause before your day begins.
I've been a musician most of my life.
And there's a saying that I learned long ago,
especially while playing jazz.
Young musicians commonly try to play too much.
And my teacher used to say to me,
Tyler, make sure you play the rests,
the moments of silence, as well as you play the actual notes.
And he wasn't wrong.
Miles Davis is famous for saying,
it's not the notes you play,
it's the notes you don't play.
Miles was probably the best at being sparse.
And you'll find this in all types of music.
The moments where the music is a little more still,
more quiet, perhaps even silent.
These moments really breathe life into the song.
There's no better contrast to a beautiful melody
or a dancey chorus than silence.
It gives our ears time to process everything.
And the same is true of life.
You could always be in a rush, always worried about what's next.
But if you do that, then you'll miss most of what's going on in your life.
You don't have any time to process.
No time to smell the roses and enjoy the journey.
Moments of silence are also often when we have our best ideas.
So today, we're going to do just that.
I'm not going to plant any big ideas in your head.
We're just going to enjoy this moment.
And on that note, let's enjoy bed for just a little bit long.
It is awfully cozy after all.
Let's take a nice stretch while we're here.
Lay on your back if you're not already.
Bend your knees and bring them up to your chest.
Wrap your arms around them and just give your bent legs a nice, gentle squeeze.
And take a few deep breaths here.
Inhaling, pausing at the top, and then exhaling.
You can let go of your legs and let them fall straight again.
fall straight again. Take one more big stretch in bed, whatever you'd like, whatever feels good.
And when you finish that stretch, take a deep breath, roll over in your bed, put your feet on the
ground, and stand up.
