Good morning and welcome to wake me up.
I'm Tyler, your host, and this is the podcast where morning people are made.
Thanks for tuning in today.
Have you ever woken up one morning and just really didn't want to get out of bed?
Well, don't feel bad.
It happens to all of us.
I feel that way all the time too, especially lately, because we're going to be.
Winter is fast approaching.
The days are getting shorter and colder,
and I often don't want to leave the warmth of my bed.
But you don't need to be headed into the winter months
to feel the benefits of what we'll do here today.
This episode will also work great
if it's just one of those days
where you wake up feeling groggy, tired,
or just unexcited about the day.
So let's go ahead and jump right into it.
Start by opening your eyes if you haven't done that already.
And let's take a few deep breaths in just to get things going.
So inhale, fill all the way up, hold it at the top for just a second,
and then exhale. Just let it all go.
You don't need to force it out.
Let's do one more just like that.
So inhale, hold at the top, and exhale.
Fantastic.
So why don't we take our time
and enjoy the comfort of bed
just a bit longer today?
But we don't want to fall asleep,
so let's do a few stretches while we're here.
And of course, only do the stretches
if you're physically able to.
There's no need to push yourself,
and if one of these doesn't work for you,
or you just want to do something else,
then by all means, go for it.
This is your morning,
your day, and you can do whatever you'd like with it.
So let's do our first stretch,
and you can start lying flat on your back,
reach your arms out over your head,
and stretch your toes towards the foot of the bed.
Just reach as far as you can in those opposite directions,
getting a nice bit of length to the body.
Now release.
Let's do that once more.
So inhale,
and stretch as far as you can from your fingertips all the way to your toes.
And then release on your exhale.
Let's go on to our next one.
We'll still be lying on our backs.
Bend your right knee in towards your chest.
Interlace your fingers just below the knee
and give a very gentle squeeze down towards your chest.
Keep breathing deeply here.
You can rock, slight.
from side to side, or draw a big circle with your knee.
Do anything that feels good for you.
Okay, now let go of your right leg.
And let's switch to the left side.
So with your right leg straight now, bend your left leg toward your chest.
And with your hands just below your left knee, give a gentle squeeze down towards your chest.
Remember to keep those breaths flowing while you're here.
And if you did a variation on the right side,
then you can do it on the left side too.
Or not.
Either way, it doesn't really matter all that much.
Just pay attention to what your body is asking for and go with that.
Okay.
Now you can release your left leg so that both of your legs are now straight.
And let's do one more stretch.
So bring both knees back to your chest.
and let them fall over to the right side.
Keep your shoulders flat on the bed.
You don't want to turn over.
And you'll end up with your core in a gentle twist.
This is often called supine twist.
Some of us will be able to go all the way to the side.
Some of us won't.
Again, it doesn't matter how far you can go.
There's no award.
There is only a reward for making yourself
feel good.
So focus on that.
All right, now bring your knees back to center.
Take a breath and reset.
And then let them fall over to the left.
Again, being sure to keep your shoulders flat on the bed.
This is going to limit how far your legs will twist,
but if you don't keep your shoulders flat,
then the twist loses its effectiveness.
I know this is a bit of a difficult.
position to breathe in, but do make sure you're still taking those breaths. It'll really help your muscles
loosen up. Okay, now come back to center and take one more deep breath in, the biggest one you've
taken yet. And as you exhale, let's roll over, get out of bed, stand up tall and proud,
and let's get this great day started.
