Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast Where Morning People Are Made.
I'm Tyler, and I'm so honored to have you with me this morning.
Now, we all go through changes in life.
Some are self-imposed and others aren't.
Relationships, jobs, the phases of our lives, these are all temporary things.
And that means inevitably we will lose things.
We will move on from them, or they will move on from us.
It can be hard to let go of what was, because, well, it's your life.
It's what you know and what you're used to.
there's two really special gifts when you let go of what was and leave it to its time.
First, you can begin to appreciate just how valuable that thing was. And second, you can take
that experience of what was and use it to help guide you toward new opportunities to a better you
and a better life. I want to quickly thank Rachel for requesting this episode. It's such a great
idea, and I think you all will love it.
So let's look forward toward this day, and let's get it started.
So if you're in bed, then go ahead and open your eyes if you haven't done that already.
And let's take a big inhale and stretch together, whether you're in bed or not.
So inhale and stretch it out in every direction.
And then exhale and relax.
Once again, inhale, stretch it out, and then exhale, and relax.
Fantastic.
So perhaps, as you're looking towards this morning, you're going through some sort of change in life,
leaving an old part of you behind.
Maybe it's a relationship, a job, an apartment.
The fact is, we're all going through change.
every day of our lives.
But sometimes, there are things that we have to move on from,
which hit us a little bit harder.
It can be tough, and it can be confusing,
especially when it was something that you cared about,
that you put time and effort into,
something that, in a way, helped to define who you are.
I always find it helpful to remind myself
that everything is.
life is temporary. Every relationship, every phase, even life itself, and the sooner we can accept
that all things have phases, the sooner will be able to make the most of them, appreciate them
for what they offered to us, and use that knowledge to make our lives better going forward.
So if you're feeling the pull of change on you, I hope you remember that.
And I hope you remember that nothing in life is given.
You are so lucky to have received this thing in your life.
You are never going to be given it forever.
The fact that you even got the opportunity to have that experience is a blessing.
And today, we're going to use the knowledge of that experience, that blessing,
to turn our heads forward and use it to make it to make.
make our lives better. So on that note, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, roll over in bed,
and make your way to standing up. All right, let's do a couple of quick stretches. And remember,
you should always be careful with these. If you're not able to do one or you'd prefer to do
something else, then be my guest. Let's start with our neck and be very gentle with this.
Just roll your head slowly from side to side.
Nice and easy.
Neck tension is something that routinely gets me.
It's common for all of us if we work at desks.
So I often like to start with this one right when I get out of bed.
All right, now pause and bring your head back to center.
Take a deep breath in.
And as you do, reach your arms to the sky.
Reach as far as you can, all the way out of your shoulders.
And then on the exhale, fold forward at the waist.
And just let everything hang towards the ground in a nice forward fold.
Relax your arms.
Have a little bend in your knee.
And be sure to release your neck.
Let everything soften.
And you don't have to sit perfectly still here.
You can sway a little from side to side or bend one knee and then the other.
Anything that feels good for you.
This is your time.
All right, now slowly begin to roll back up to standing.
And when you get there, roll your shoulders up, back, and down.
All right, so if you want to do more stretches, then go for it.
But otherwise, we're going to turn to our meditation for today.
So find a comfortable seat anywhere in your home, just not in your bed.
And as usual, feel free to grab a sip of water.
or do anything like that along the way.
Now, in today's meditation,
we're going to do a very simple bit of gratitude
that will hopefully help you to appreciate the things
you're struggling to let go of.
It really helps to see them for what they are,
a gift of the past
that you can always continue to cherish in your own mind.
And even more so,
they are a gift to help guide,
you towards a better future.
So have in mind a change that you're currently going through,
or one you've recently gone through that you're still dealing with a little bit.
Maybe you move to a new place,
left a job, ended a relationship, finished school,
or even if you're just losing interest in a hobby you once loved.
It can really be anything.
So by now, hopefully you're in that nice comfortable seated position.
And you want to be seated upright, but nice and relaxed too.
And let's take a deep breath in.
And then as you exhale, just close your eyes.
Take this first moment just to make sure you're comfortable.
Let everything begin to relax.
Let your face soften and your jaw.
And you can just breathe at your own pace here.
following that rise and fall, allowing it to be smooth and effortless.
And as you follow it, slowly your breath will take you deeper and deeper.
Okay, now that you're all settled in, bring to mind that change you're going through
or went through and are still dealing with.
Notice how the loss or change to this thing causes an emotional reaction within you.
And just watch what that reaction actually is for a moment.
Detach from the feeling.
And just look at it.
Where does that emotion really come from?
What was it about this thing or experience or person that made you feel something?
Perhaps you notice that the emotion comes from a place of caring.
You care about this thing, this person, job, experience.
whatever it is, and how it relates to you.
Clearly, it brought meaning to you somehow.
So appreciate how special of a gift that is.
We have all kinds of experiences every single day.
We meet all kinds of people.
But recognize how few make you feel the way this one did.
That, my friend, is a true gift.
So send out a silent thank you to that thing, that person or experience, for the gift of showing up in your life and giving you the chance to enjoy it.
Now let's take a moment and dedicate our thoughts just to this thing.
And don't try to stop anything from coming up.
Don't hold back or try to think only of the good.
Clearly, a part of you wants to remember this.
So use this moment to do just that.
All right.
Now begin to bring yourself back to the breath for a moment.
Back to the here and now.
And just follow that rise and fall once again.
Okay, now slowly bring yourself back to the room,
noticing any sounds going on around you,
and the chair beneath you.
Take a deep breath in
and as you exhale
slowly open your eyes
and just take this moment to gather yourself
dedicating a moment to something we care about
is a really useful way to reciprocate
all of the good it's brought to us
our time is the most valuable thing we have
so taking some to appreciate that gift
is truly priceless
But then we're left with the question of where do we go from here.
Now that this thing is out of our life, how can we move forward when we have a bit of a hole to fill?
Well, the answer is to fill that hole with all of the knowledge and love you gained from that gift
and use it to direct you towards filling your life with wonderful things just like that.
All right, now it's time for today's send-up.
In this final portion of the show, I offer a little bit of motivation to help you get excited about the day ahead.
Every experience we have, every relationship, every job, and every place we live,
whether they were good or bad, they are all gifts if we choose to see them that way.
The end of a relationship or a phase of life can leave us feeling incomplete.
But that's just a feeling.
That's not reality.
You're just as complete as you were before.
The reality is you've received something beyond worth.
That's completely priceless.
And that is knowledge.
Knowing that this kind of person brings you joy.
Knowing that this kind of job doesn't make you happy.
So friends, when you're facing the...
end of a phase of any kind. And you're feeling the emptiness that often arises at these times.
Don't fret. Use the gift of that experience, that person, that time in your life. Remember what about
it made you happy, what you can use from it to make the future even better, and what you can do
to improve yourself the next time around. Appreciate that the end of the end of the end. Appreciate that the
The end of a phase is an opportunity to recreate yourself,
to build a better version of you based on the knowledge that you've gained along the way,
to surround yourself with people you're more connected to.
My friends, I hope you use your past experiences to make the next phase of your life
even more fulfilling and joyful, because that is the true gift of any loss and any change.
The opportunity that it presents to begin anew.
Well, that's all I've got for today, friends.
