Good morning, everybody. And welcome to Wake Me Up. I'm your host, Tyler, and this is the show.
Starting point is 00:00:33 the podcast where morning people are made. Life is constantly changing, whether we do it ourselves or it's forced upon us. Sometimes we know we need to make a change, but we hesitate to do it because we fear the unknowns on the other side. Maybe you're in a toxic relationship or an unfulfilling job,
Starting point is 00:01:00 and you know it's time to move on, but you're struggling to. actually make the change. Today's episode will encourage you to take those leaps. We've got another great day ahead of us, so let's go ahead and get it started. And we'll begin, like usual, just by opening our eyes, if you haven't done that already. And then let's take a big inhale and a big stretch in bed. Maybe you want to yawn while you do that too.
Starting point is 00:01:41 And then on the exhale, just relax and let everything soften back out. Let's take one more moment in bed just to keep loosening up the body. And you can do that on your own just by moving around in whatever way feels best for you. That will get the blood circulating, which will help you wake up. In these quiet moments, before the day starts, it's a great time to check in. So, let's take this moment to do that. Think about what's going on in your life these days. What things and people are you giving most of your time to?
Starting point is 00:02:37 Do you feel like these are positive uses of your time and energy? Is there anything you might want to change about them, or how you're using your time? Perhaps these things or relationships are changing on their own, and you either need to adapt or move on. No matter what your answers were or where you find yourself in life these days, change can be tough. But it's important to remember that the only constant in life is change. Everything is temporary.
Starting point is 00:03:24 And the sooner we can accept this fact of life and get comfortable with it, the better we'll be able to deal with change. So no matter what you have going, on today, whether you're about to take the biggest leap of your life, or if it's just going to be another routine day, acknowledge that change will occur today in some shape or form. Try to remember that change is okay. And even if you end up taking a step back because of it, you'll soon be taking several more steps forward. So on that note, let's take it. Let's take you. Take our first steps of the day.
Starting point is 00:04:15 Join me in taking a deep breath in, and as you exhale, roll over in bed, and make your way to standing up. All right, now that we're standing, let's take a stretch. Of course, only join if you're physically able, and if you'd prefer to do something else, then please be my guest. We'll keep this pretty quick today, so if you want to follow along with me, then we're going to take a deep breath in. And while you do that, reach both arms to the sky, reaching as far as you possibly can. And on your exhale, fold forward at the waist. And just let everything hang
Starting point is 00:05:15 towards the ground. Let your neck relax. Let your arms dangle to the floor. And it's nice to Keep a little bend in your knee, since it's still early in the morning. Maybe you want to sway side to side gently. You don't need to sit perfectly still here. Now slowly roll back up to standing, vertebrae by vertebrae. And when you get there, roll your shoulders up, back, and down. Okay, so if you'd like to do more stretches, then go for it. Otherwise, we're going to turn to our meditation for today.
Starting point is 00:06:21 So go ahead and find a comfortable seat anywhere in your home, just not in bed. And feel free to grab water or use the bathroom or do anything like that along the way. Today, we've got a visualization in store, and it will help you get better at dealing with change. We've all been through changes in life. Some we've handled gracefully, while others may have been a bit messy. But we can learn something from both sides of that spectrum. To use myself as an example, I had a really hard time when I got braces as a teenager. Mainly because I was a trumpet player and it suddenly ruined my ability to play.
Starting point is 00:07:08 I wasn't in a good mood about it, to put it lightly. But in hindsight, it was a really valuable change for me, because eventually, after much determination and practice, I was able to play well with my braces on. And then when I eventually got them taken off, my abilities quickly soared, even better than I had been before. So I learned that I could adapt,
Starting point is 00:07:39 that if I worked at something, I could overcome obstacles. And that's proved to be valued, able to me over and over in life. So consider a change you handled well in your life. One that you were graceful about, that went smoothly, and then think of one that you didn't handle so well, because we'll use both of those in our meditation today. So by now hopefully you've found a nice comfortable seat, and you're sitting upright but relaxed. Take a deep breath in, And as you exhale, close your eyes. Take this first moment just to get comfortable and settle in.
Starting point is 00:08:43 Let everything soften. Let your face relax and your shoulders. And let's take one more deep breath together. So inhale and then release. And you can let your breath fall back to its own natural pace. The most important thing here is that the best breath feels smooth, and just follow it for a moment while we settle in. Okay, now that we're nice and settled in. Bring to mind a change from a prior time in your life that maybe you didn't
Starting point is 00:10:20 handle so well. It doesn't have to be anything huge or important. But a change that you struggled with, go back to that time in your life. See yourself for who you work. back then. Remember what was on your mind, what you were focused on and cared about, what your problems were at that time, and remember what was so tough about that change. What specifically did you struggle with? And most importantly, why did you struggle with this change so much? What about it caused such a reaction in you. As you sit here today, looking back, notice how this past version of you could have handled that change a little bit better. Maybe you just needed a different mindset. Or you needed to believe in yourself more. And now that you know, you have
Starting point is 00:12:12 something to learn from this past struggle in your life. Thank that change. Thank that change. for occurring. The experience of it has taught you something valuable. And you'll be better prepared for the next change in life because of it. All right, now you can let that image go and now bring to mind another change that happened in your life. But this one, you handled it rather well. This change was a pretty smooth one. Go back to that time in your life, see yourself for who you were then. Remember what was on your mind, what you were focused on and cared about, and remember what your problems were at that time in life. Pay close attention to those memories and notice what it was about you that allowed you
Starting point is 00:13:41 to handle this change gracefully. It may not have been a perfect transition. But notice, Notice why you were able to handle it well overall. Was it your mindset? Was it because you were excited about this change? Were you leaving something painful to move towards something a bit more positive? Were you more confident? And now that you know you have something to learn from this past struggle in your life, thank that change for having occurred.
Starting point is 00:14:33 The experience of it has taught you something extremely valuable. And you'll be better prepared for the next change in life because of it. And you can let that image go now and just follow your breath for another moment. All right, slowly begin to bring yourself back into the room and back into your body. Noticing the chair beneath you. maybe your feet on the floor or a sound in the room and take a deep breath in
Starting point is 00:15:40 and on your exhale you can open your eyes and just gather yourself as you come out of that. So I hope you enjoyed that little meditation and that you were able to notice why certain changes you've handled better than others.
Starting point is 00:16:12 You might have just been more mature in a better place in life, or maybe it was because you made a positive change. Whatever the case may be, you know that you can handle change well. So if you're facing a big change, try to set yourself up for success by thinking back on these past changes
Starting point is 00:16:36 that you did handle well. Figure out the tools that helped you succeed in those situations and apply them to the present. Adapting to change, like many things, is a skill. With practice, you can get much better at it. So I encourage you to come back and redo this meditation with different experiences. You might be surprised just how much you can learn about yourself. Now, it's time for today's send off.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Change is inevitable. because everything in life is temporary. And if everything is temporary, then that also means the discomfort brought about by change is temporary too. If you're afraid of making a change, then remember it's not the change itself you fear. What you fear is the discomfort associated with that change.
Starting point is 00:17:49 The more we can learn to be okay with that change, discomfort, the better will be able to deal with change when it does come our way. And the more willing will be to take risks and leaps of faith that we know will be good for us. Friends, you should never stay in a situation that is unhealthy for you because you fear changing to something else. Whether it's a job or a relationship, if you know something isn't right for you, then it's time to make that change. Trust yourself. You are more than capable of surviving the leap.
Starting point is 00:18:33 And sure, there will be some discomfort along the way, but that's okay. We can compare that to the discomfort of a deep stretch or a strong massage. That discomfort is necessary to bring about the relief that comes to. on the other side. So my friends, I encourage you to believe in yourself. You can handle any change that comes your way. And I encourage you to lean into change rather than to fear it. The more we can begin to welcome change, the better will be at handling life's inevitable
Starting point is 00:19:17 ups and downs. Well, that's all I've got. for you today, friends. Thanks so much for joining me here and tuning in.
