Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up. I'm Tyler, your host, and this is the podcast where morning people are made. Today, I'm going to talk a little bit less and give you the opportunity for some high quality personal time. We all need it every now and then, just to keep track of how we're doing. I'll guide you through our morning routine like usual, but instead of filling most of the time with
Starting point is 00:00:47 my voice, I'll pose some questions to encourage you to have a more personal experience. So, let's get right to it today. We'll begin like we always do, by opening our eyes. And then, taking a big stretch in bed, whatever feels good. And maybe a yawn comes out while you do that too. Now let's take a few deep breaths together to get some oxygen flowing, which will help wake up the body. So inhale, hold at the top, and then exhale. Just let it all go.
Starting point is 00:01:38 And let's do one more like that. So inhale, hold, and then exhale. Fantastic. So you can keep taking those breaths and doing any movements or stretches that feel good. Take this next moment or two just to relish in the comfort of your bed. And while you do that, I'm going to pose some very simple questions. And you can just let your mind run on them. There's no need for any kind of specific answer.
Starting point is 00:02:19 There's no need to worry about your answer or feel like it's right or wrong. We're just checking in here. So there's no judgment whatsoever. How are you feeling this morning? Just in general. How is your body feeling? Do any parts feel especially good? Does anything feel a little bit off or tight?
Starting point is 00:03:14 How's your life going these days? What are a few things that are going well in life right now? What could be going better in your life these days? What's something that you can do for your life? yourself today that will make this day special, even if it's just something simple. I hope that you do that thing for yourself today. And on that note, let's take one more deep breath in, and as you exhale, make your way out of bed into a standing position. All right, now that you're standing up, let's take a quick stretch to help loosen the body. And of course, you should only
Starting point is 00:04:41 join if you're physically able and if you'd prefer to do something else then be my guest. If you're going to join me though then start with your hands down by your sides and just with your right arm at first draw some big circles like your arm is a windmill try to go all the way around your range of motion nice and slow we don't need to push anything now pause and circle in the other direction a few times too. Okay, you can let that arm relax back down now and we'll switch to the other side. So draw those big circles with the other arm now. Again going all the way around your range of motion. Nice and easy. And after you've done a few circles in one direction, then pause and draw those
Starting point is 00:05:51 circles in the other direction. Okay, you can let that arm relax back down now too. And on your next Inhale, reach your hands all the way to the sky. Reach all the way out of your shoulders. And then when you exhale, fold forward at your waist, you can have a nice bend in the knee and just let everything hang down towards the ground. This will help to loosen your lower back and your legs a little bit.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Don't feel like you need to sit perfectly still here. You can sway side to side or do anything that feels good and natural to you. Now slowly roll back up to standing. And when you get there, roll your shoulders up and let them settle down. All right, so we're going to move to our meditation. But if there are any other stretches you'd like to do, then feel free to press pause and come back and join us when you're ready.
Starting point is 00:07:16 So for our meditation, you want to find a nice comfortable seat. It can be in a chair, on the floor, on a cushion, just not in your bed. And while you make your way to that seat, feel free to grab a sip of water, use the bathroom, do anything like that. Now, I'm going to stay out of your way for the most part during this meditation. Because this time is for you. It's all about you. We live busy lives these days, and we always have something trying to grab our attention. You deserve a few moments every day just for yourself.
Starting point is 00:07:56 to check in on number one. So I'm going to try to offer you that time today. A few moments just for you, for your thoughts, and for your mind to unwind. So by now, hopefully, you've found a nice, comfortable seat. And you want to be seated upright, but allow your body to relax.
Starting point is 00:08:25 Don't hold on to any tension. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, just slowly close your eyes. Take this first minute or so to get settled so that your body isn't a distraction. Let your face soften, relax your jaw, and let your shoulders drop down. Now let's take a couple deep breaths together.
Starting point is 00:09:06 So inhale, hold at the top, and then exhale. Great, one more. Inhale. Hold. You can resume breathing at your own natural pace now, whatever that feels like to you. The most important thing is that it feels effortless and smooth. And you can rest your attention on that nice and easy breath too. And as you do, you'll notice your breath takes you a little bit deeper and deeper each time. Naturally, as you sit here quietly, your mind will wander.
Starting point is 00:10:57 And that's perfectly fine. It's totally normal. It's bound to happen at some point. Once you notice that has happened, though, bring yourself back to right now. And the easiest way to do that is by resting your attention on your breath. So if your mind has wandered, this is just a gentle reminder to re-center. We'll be here for another moment or two, and you can just keep doing exactly what you've been doing,
Starting point is 00:12:30 allowing your mind to untangle itself a little bit. Okay, you can slowly begin to bring yourself back into your body, back into the room. Notice the chair beneath you, and maybe give your fingers and toes a little wiggle. Take a deep breath in, and on your exhale, you can open your eyes. So I hope you enjoyed those few minutes just for you.
Starting point is 00:13:51 You deserve that every single day. And honestly, we all need it. Our brains need those moments of quiet to process all that's going on in life. So I encourage you to do something like this for yourself every day, whether it's coming back to this episode, going on a morning walk by yourself, or having some quiet time during your morning commute.
Starting point is 00:14:19 it's time for today's send-off. Friends, make sure that you take care of yourself. You have to look after number one, and that's you. I know it sounds selfish, but there's nothing more important. If you don't take care of yourself, then you can't take care of anyone else. You won't have the energy and longevity to do the things you dream of doing, to improve the world, and to look after your friends. and family.
Starting point is 00:14:53 In order to bring the best out of the world, we have to first bring the best out of ourselves. If everyone does that, imagine how far we'll go. We focus so much on how the world needs to be improved. All of the things wrong with it. All of the changes we want to make to our societies. But we forget that the only thing we can change is ourselves. So, if you want to improve the world, start with the one thing you can improve yourself.
Starting point is 00:15:30 And that begins by taking care of yourself. Taking care of your body, taking care of your mind, making sure you do something good for yourself each and every day. It doesn't have to be big or special. In fact, something simple and routine. that you really enjoy every time is probably the best. So, my friends, make sure you take some time for yourself today. Some time to think, some time to play, some time to give love and be loved, and some time to laugh.
Starting point is 00:16:12 If you do all of those things, then it's hard to say that you've had a bad day. That's all for today, my friends. Thank you so much for tuning in and joining me here this morning. Now go out, take care of yourself, and have an absolutely fantastic day.
