Hi there, and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where Morning People are made.
I'm Tyler, your host, and I'm so glad you've joined me today for this very special episode.
Because today, you are free to let go of all of the things in your past.
past that you don't want to deal with anymore.
The things that still linger on your mind years later.
My friend, who you were in the past doesn't have to define who you are today.
And so, we'll take the opportunity to define ourselves anew this morning.
And who knows, maybe we'll become who we've always wanted to be.
So, let's get started.
Whether you're joining from bed or you're up and about already, it doesn't matter.
But let's all just take a pause for a second.
And use this moment for a deep breath.
So inhale all the way into your lungs.
Hold it at the top and then exhale.
Just let it all go.
Now, feel free to roll around in bed, stretch yourself out, or just listen, and enjoy this last moment to
relax before you start the day.
And while you do that, let me ask you a question.
Who do you want to be today?
Try not to define it with words.
Define it in your mind.
See it.
The ideal version of you today.
What do they look like?
What do they do with their time?
Who do they surround themselves with?
What from their past have they freed themselves from?
What's no longer holding them back?
Friends, we all have things in our past that weigh on us.
Things that we can't seem to shake loose.
And to a degree, we do carry our past with us all the time.
But just because it's with us doesn't mean it has to define us going forward.
So, if there's something that's been holding you back,
let today be the day you.
You're free from it.
Let go of it.
We've all got something like that.
And you can do it.
You can free yourself from its grasp.
I know you can.
You moving on from it begins just like this.
With self-belief and a positive mindset.
So take a deep breath in,
and as you exhale, roll over in bed,
and make your way to do that.
standing up. All right, now that we're all up and standing, let's do one quick stretch to help
loosen the body. And as always, only join if you're able, and feel free to do something else
if you'd prefer. We'll keep it simple today and just do our usual forward fold. So inhale,
and reach both hands all the way to the sky. Try to touch your ceiling, and on your exhale,
fold forward at the waist and just let everything hang towards the ground.
Use this time to loosen up your legs, loosen up your back, shake out your arms and your neck,
and then slowly roll all the way back up to standing. And when you get there, roll your shoulders
up and down. Okay, so hopefully your body is feeling a little bit more awake now. Let's take the
next few minutes for a bit of meditation.
So grab a sip of water and find your way to a comfortable seat.
You can sit anywhere in your home, just not in your bed.
We don't want to fall back asleep.
Today's meditation will incorporate a visualization.
It can be a powerful and moving visualization if you go all in.
So I encourage you to do that.
A common reason we all struggle to move
from things in our past is that we have a hard time forgiving ourselves for the role that we played.
Perhaps we made a mistake or weren't mature enough to know better at the time.
But friends, it's no use in lingering on the past.
Learn from it, but don't linger on it.
This meditation will help you do just that.
So by now, hopefully you're seated.
and you want to be sitting upright,
but allow yourself to relax.
Don't hold on to any tension.
Take a deep breath in,
and then as you exhale,
just close your eyes.
Take this first moment to get yourself situated.
Make sure you're comfortable.
Let your shoulders relax.
Let your jaw soften.
Let your face soften too.
You can breathe at whatever pace feels right to you.
the most important thing is that your breath feels smooth and effortless.
Okay, now that you're all settled in,
bring to mind an image,
something from your past that you're struggling to move on from,
something that still bothers you,
causes you some mental anguish.
It can be anything,
a relationship, a job, a life decision,
transport yourself back in time to that part of your life.
See yourself living it.
The ups and downs.
The parts you like to remember.
And the parts you don't.
Now zoom in on yourself here.
As you're living out this experience,
consider where you were in your life,
what you cared about,
what was important to you.
What had you gone through already?
And what had you not gone through yet?
What is it about this time, this experience that has been so hard to let go of?
What's keeping you tied to this past moment in time so that you can't fully enjoy the present?
Now put all of those questions aside and just look at this past version of yourself.
Forgive them for whatever role they played in this experience.
You were just doing the best you could, and it's not your fault.
All of this can't be held against you,
and promise that you won't hold this against yourself anymore.
The past you wants that, and the present you deserves that.
All right, you can let that image go now,
and return to the breath for a moment.
Now slowly begin to bring yourself back into the room.
Notice the chair beneath you.
you and your feet on the floor.
Maybe there are some sounds going on in the room around you.
And to end this meditation, let's take a big breath in.
And on your exhale, slowly open your eyes and just take a moment to gather yourself.
I hope you're feeling a weight lifted off your shoulders after that little visualization.
We all struggle with things from our past.
It's so important that we don't blame ourselves for the unfortunate,
fortunate things that happen in our lives.
We can't carry that with us.
It's not our fault.
We're all just doing the best we can with what we have.
And we have to learn by trial and error.
So what's important is to learn, learn and move on.
It's time for today's send-off.
You can redefine yourself every single day if you want to.
Don't allow yourself to be boxed in by who you were yesterday or a year ago.
Because the only thing that really exists is this moment right now.
The future, well, that's just a projection of the mind.
It's what we expect to happen, not what really happens.
And the past, well, those are just memories.
They don't actually exist right now.
And we all know that memories are easily bent and manipulated over time.
So focus your energy on the present.
Who do you want to be today?
Who you were yesterday doesn't really matter.
And what do you want to do today?
What you did yesterday doesn't matter.
You can do something completely different today if it's what you really want.
With each day, you have a lot.
opportunity to be something new, to do what you've always dreamed of, to reach farther,
higher, to challenge yourself in new ways, to experience new things, to laugh at a new joke,
to write a new story. The past is nothing but a tool for the present. It doesn't define who
you are right now. But as for today, well,
Only you can define who you are today.
Well, that's all for this episode, friends.
Thank you so much for tuning in and joining me here.
I'll talk to you all soon.
Until then, I hope you have a wonderful day.
