Good morning and welcome to wake me up, the podcast where morning people are made.
I'm your host, Tyler, and I'm so glad that you're here with me today.
This morning routine is designed to help you see the value in negative experiences.
They happen to us all the time, unfortunately.
And they tend to bring us down and make us question things.
But if we're able to flip our perspective, these negative experiences can be our greatest strengths and sources of energy.
Now, what do you say? Let's go ahead and get this day started.
As you wake up this morning, you can just listen to my voice.
And over the next few minutes, we'll slowly wake up.
You can open your eyes and roll onto your back.
Place your hands on your chest.
and feel the beating of your heart
and the rise and fall of your breath.
Share a moment of gratitude with your heart and your lungs
for all of the hard work they do,
quietly in the background,
keeping you alive and well,
allowing you to live this life.
And they do all of that,
without ever receiving an award or a medal.
They do it because that's just what they do.
And that's something to be really grateful for.
Take a couple of deep inhales and exhales.
And just allow some oxygen to help you wake up.
And while you lay there this morning,
perhaps there's something on your mind.
Maybe you're dreading going to work today
or you're anxious about a conversation you need to have.
Or maybe there's something that's been lingering in your mind for a long time
that you're still trying to sort out.
A lot of times we focus so hard on trying to solve a problem that we face,
or a feeling that we have,
that we start to let the problem define us.
It becomes who we are and how we describe ourselves.
And that's not necessarily bad.
But our natural tendency is to cower under painful moments,
which makes sense. Pain hurts.
If you find yourself in this situation,
Remember that by definition, you are bigger than this pain or this problem.
It does not encompass every second of your life.
You have plenty of experiences that are separate and untouched by it.
And therefore, you are greater than any pain or problem you will ever face.
So as you rise this morning, recognize your own power.
your power to write the narrative that is the story of your own life.
You can't always choose what happens in the story,
but you can always choose how it's portrayed.
So today, let's choose to write a story that makes us feel good,
no matter what has or what will happen.
A story about overcoming obstacles,
about growth and learning,
a story of self-love and acceptance.
A story about someone who uses the problems and pains in their own life
to help others avoid those same issues.
Let's start writing that story.
Take a deep breath, and when you exhale,
roll over in bed,
place your feet on the ground,
and stand up.
