Hi, and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where morning people are made. Another wonderful day lies ahead of us, and I am beyond thrilled to be starting it off with you. Today's episode will fill you with the confidence and self-belief to live the life that you dream of. You are so capable. You truly are able to do anything in life that you put your mind to.
Starting point is 00:00:57 This episode will remind you of that, and it will get you fired up to take action. Before we get started, I want to give a very special thank you to David and Victoria, who just joined the Wake Me Up Patreon community. Thank you for being part of this group of wonderful people, a community based on mutual support and positivity. Now, let's get this day started. Wherever you are, whether you're joining from bed or you're already awake, take a big breath in, hold it, and then exhale.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Just let it all go. Let's do that once more together, so inhale, hold, and then release. Feel free to take the next moment or so to stretch or wiggle around, shake off that bit of morning fogginess. Or just enjoy this last moment of peace and quiet before the day begins. And while you do that, I'm going to tell you a quick story. It's one for my own life when I was just a little boy. A little Tyler. I was on a family vacation, and a family member of mine who's older than me, he was a teenager then,
Starting point is 00:02:35 he was throwing the football with me. And there was a group of old men sitting nearby who were not part of our family, and they were sort of heckling us and talking trash. They bet that my cousin couldn't throw this football over a nearby house, and I go catch it. My cousin, who's not shy of a challenge, looked at me and said, we've got this. He laid out a plan, and then we ran the play.
Starting point is 00:03:04 I sprinted around this house and watched the football soar over the roof. I had to make up ground because the ball was out ahead of me, and at the last second, I dove and caught it. Now, I know this seems like a relatively routine moment and the life of most little boys. But it's what happened next that really stuck with me. After I had caught the ball,
Starting point is 00:03:31 my cousin ran around the house excited because the old men heckling us were shocked that we'd been able to pull it off. He picked me up by my shoulders and stood me up. He looked me in the eyes and said, don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't do something. If you try your hardest, you can do anything you want to. I don't know if it's that he was older than me and I looked up to him,
Starting point is 00:03:59 or that we just proved a bunch of old hecklers wrong. But that moment hit me. It's stuck in my mind ever since. Perhaps it's stuck more and more because I've found it to be true in my life, time and time again. You can do anything you put your mind to. You already have all of the tools and skills necessary. You just have to do it.
Starting point is 00:04:24 So today, my friend, don't doubt yourself or your abilities. Whatever comes your way, just remember, you've got this. On that note, let's take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, roll over in bed, and make your way to standing up. And now that we're up, let's take a quick stretch just to loosen up the body. You should only join in these stretches if you're physically able. And of course, if you want to do something else, please go for it. If you're going to come along with me, then let's start with our right arm.
Starting point is 00:05:23 We're going to draw it in big circles like a windmill. And go slowly at first. Really work all the way around your full range of motion. Once you've done that a few times in one direction, pause, and then draw those big circles in the other direction. All right, now let your right arm fall back down by your weight. And let's do the same thing with the left arm, drawing those big circles, going slowly and really expanding all the way through the full range of motion of your shoulder. All right, now pause and draw those circles in the other direction.
Starting point is 00:06:43 All right, now let your left arm fall down by your side. And take a big inhale and reach your hands towards the sky. Reach as far as you possibly can. On your exhale, fold forward at your waist, and just let everything hang towards the ground. Let your arms relax, let your neck soften, and your face. You can sit still if you'd like, or you can sway side to side. You can alternately bend one knee and then the other,
Starting point is 00:07:22 do anything that feels good for you. Okay, now slowly begin to roll all the way back up to standing, And when you get there, roll your shoulders up and down. Okay, so if you want to do any other stretches, then go for it. Otherwise, we're going to move on to our meditation for today. So go ahead and find a comfortable seat anywhere in your home. Just don't sit in your bed. And as usual, feel free to grab a sip of water, use the bathroom, do anything like that on your way there.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Today, I am going to get out of your way. because if you've been with me for a while on this show, then you know how to meditate. And even if you haven't been here for a while, trust me, you know how to meditate too. You don't need me for this, or for anything, really. Yes, it's nice to have a guide sometimes
Starting point is 00:08:41 and a companion to share experiences with. But meditation is inherently a personal journey, and you are so capable of seeing all of the ones wonderful things it holds by yourself. So today, I'll just get you settled and let you do meditation in the way you prefer to do it. Whether that's just sitting quietly or focusing on a certain breath count or mantra, this is your life, your time, your meditation. By now you should have found that nice comfortable seat and you want to be seated upright,
Starting point is 00:09:27 but try to allow yourself to relax. Take a deep breath in and then close your eyes as you exhale. Take this first moment or so just to make sure you're comfortable that your body is not going to be a source of distraction. Let your face soften. Let your jaw relax. Let your shoulders drop down.
Starting point is 00:10:11 And let's take one big breath together all the way into your belly. So inhale, hold it at the top, and then exhale. Now breathe at your own pace. Keeping those breaths nice and smooth, the most important thing is that it feels effortless to you. And just settle in here and allow yourself to draw deeper and deeper.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Remember, this is your meditation, so feel free to do whatever you want with it. I'll chime in when we're about halfway through, just to give you a bit of a guide. So we're about halfway through our meditation time now. Continue on as you have been, and I'll bring you out of it when our time has come to an end. All right, our meditation is coming to an end now.
Starting point is 00:15:17 So bring yourself back into the room, back into your body. Notice the chair beneath you, your feet on the floor, maybe give your fingers and toes a little wiggle and take a deep breath in and as you exhale, slowly open your eyes and just collect yourself. One of the main questions people have about meditation
Starting point is 00:16:00 is whether they're doing it right. It's actually the main reason that most people stop meditating very early on. They think that their mind is supposed to just shut off and be silent. and when it's not silent, they think they aren't capable of meditating. Well, I'm here to tell you that is a misnomer. Yes, if you meditate for a really long time,
Starting point is 00:16:26 over the course of that time, your mind will become quieter, but it will never be completely silent. The goal of meditation is to allow the mind to run, and to train your concentration through repeatedly noticing that the mind is wandering. That's why we often focus on the breath, or a mantra, or a visualization. These act as anchors for our focus.
Starting point is 00:16:56 The mind will inevitably wander away from them, but that's what we want, because then we have the opportunity to train the mind by bringing it back to the point of focus. Really, if you just sit quietly, you're meditating correct. So don't overthink it and don't beat yourself up. Trust me, you've got this.
Starting point is 00:17:24 It's time for today's send-off. I'm sure you can recall a time in your life when someone told you that you weren't capable of something. Maybe it was even you who told yourself that. I've certainly done it from time to time. But my friend, the limits we see on ourselves are only a perception. and they are a false one at that. It's the same concept as leash training a dog when it's a puppy. You must train them on a leash when they're young
Starting point is 00:17:59 and not strong enough to outdo you. Eventually, they may be strong enough to outdo you, but if you've trained them while they're a puppy, they will have ingrained in their brain a limit on what they can accomplish while they're on a leash. It creates a subconscious barrier in their mind. And the same thing happens to us through social conditioning. We're led to believe that we must fit certain molds,
Starting point is 00:18:26 that invisible boundaries make our dreams impossible. But this simply isn't true. You have made it through every day of your life so far. You have a 100% completion rate. Sure, some days were probably prettier than others, but you still made it. Who's to tell you that you aren't fully capable? Everything that's been thrown your way you've handled. My friend, you can do anything you dream of.
Starting point is 00:19:02 Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't do something. If you're willing to try your hardest, and you do, then you can do anything you set your mind to. And definitely, don't be the person, to tell yourself that you can't do something. My friend, whatever comes your way today, you can and will handle it. Whatever you want to accomplish, you can do it.
Starting point is 00:19:33 And if you ever begin to doubt that, just remember, you've got this. Well, that's all I've got for you today, friends. I really appreciate you joining me here to start our day off together. I'll talk to you all soon. And until then, go out. Have an absolutely fantastic day.
Starting point is 00:20:00 And don't forget, you've got this. If you'd like to receive more positive content from Wake Me Up, then be sure to follow the show on Instagram and TikTok. You can find links to do that in the show notes.
