Every day, we wake up with choices.
Choices about what to eat, how to move.
how to rest, what to put in our minds, and how to care for ourselves.
And oftentimes, these choices feel hard.
They're conflicting, because I'll tell you what, dessert is great.
But also, too much dessert, or desserts out of balance with real nutritious food,
make us feel like crap.
and they're a disaster for the body.
For the most part, we know what's best for us.
But in the moment, convenience, comfort, and quick pleasures can tempt us away.
So how do we deal with this conflict?
Well, health in all shapes and forms begins with a mindset choice.
And it's not about being perfect.
It's about choosing, conceiving,
to care for yourself in a way that your future self will appreciate.
It's about recognizing that every choice you make is either a step toward a healthier, happier you,
or a step away.
If you take 100 steps towards health, then one or two, less than healthy choices are probably
still going to be okay, especially if that bit of indulgence allows you to enjoy
life and take the next 100 positive steps.
So there's a balance to be struck,
because life is meant to be enjoyed.
If you don't enjoy your habits, then you won't stick with them.
If you don't enjoy your choices, you'll stop choosing them.
And if every decision feels like punishment,
it doesn't matter how much motivation you can conjure.
It's going to fade away.
So the secret is to cultivate habits that make you feel good.
Not only in the distant future, but right now too.
Health isn't just about adding years to your life.
It's about living your life fully each and every year.
So what do we do about those indulgences?
Because let's be real.
We've all got them.
What about that chocolate croissant?
The lazy Sundays.
the late night out with your friends.
Well, the problem really only arises
when otherwise harmless indulgences
become the daily default.
That's what you need to look out for.
Because that's what the future you
is going to be unhappy about.
When you make good choices most of the time,
you won't feel guilty about enjoying life's pleasures.
So when you're caught,
in that moment, wondering whether to skip the workout, stay up too late, or grab fast food
instead of something nourishing. Ask yourself this, will my future self be okay with this choice
today? And if the answer is yes, then enjoy it. Don't feel guilty about it. But if the future
you is going to be upset about that choice, then there's your answer.
It's not about restriction.
It's about loving and respecting yourself enough
to say no to things that don't serve you
beyond a quick hit of pleasure
and instead say yes to a life that you can live fully.
Reframe your reward system in this way
so that you find pleasure
in making the choice that's better for you.
My friend, a healthy life
is one built on balance, self-respect, and enjoyment.
It's about feeling good as much and as often as you can.
So today, tomorrow, and every day,
make choices your future self will thank you for.
Build a life that feels amazing,
not just in theory, but in practice.
Because health is really just about feeling good.
the better you feel, the better life gets.
And that is a goal worth striving for.
That's all for now.
I really hope you enjoyed this episode.
And if you did, I encourage you to leave a comment or review and let me know.
I want to hear about the healthy choices you're trying to make.
And be sure that you save this episode too.
And come back to it whenever you need a little reminder.
But that's all for now.
I hope to see you back here soon on Wake Me Up.
And until next time, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
