Hello, everyone, and welcome to wake me up.
The podcast, where morning people are made.
I am your very grateful host, Tyler.
Thanks so much for tuning in and joining me here today.
I'm so glad to have you all.
This is a motivational bit about hope, and I wanted to do it today,
because, let's face it, the world is a mess right now.
in more ways than one, too.
It seems like for everyone I know and I talk to,
life seems to be working against us,
and myself included.
How do we move forward and stay positive
when it feels like the deck is being stacked
higher and higher against us?
Well, I think the answer is hope.
So that's what we'll talk about today.
Let's go ahead and get started.
For those of you who are still in bed,
Take a deep breath, roll over, and go ahead and stand up.
We're not going to do anything difficult or exhausting.
So just go ahead and take that first step towards making today a great day.
Like I said before, it seems like the world is working against us right now.
It's a common theme I've been hearing from almost everyone I know.
So many things seem to be out of order or just working in the wrong direction.
It's normal to feel beat down at times like this.
Like why even try when everything is working to make your life harder?
And I have to admit I'm definitely not immune to these type of thoughts.
I've had a litany of annoyances and frustrations lately.
From car issues to my air conditioning breaking to an injury that I've had to nurse.
On top of it all, there's a pandemic, as well as all of the ungrimbing.
going issues of social justice and equality.
I'll be honest, all of this had me feeling pretty down a few weeks ago.
But then something unexpected made me feel a lot better.
I randomly learned that it took 1,500 years to build Stonehenge.
Yeah, you heard me right.
That circular rock structure in England, it took 1,500 years to build that into
what it looks like today.
Now, I know that probably seems random and off topic, but hear me out.
Consider how many generations of people live over the course of 1,500 years.
Consider how many natural disasters occur over the course of 1,500 years.
Consider how many famines, disease outbreaks, wars, and changes in power,
occur over 1,500 years.
And despite all of this, our human ancestors
never stopped working toward their common goal.
And that was thousands of years ago.
Imagine if those people who built Stonehenge
could see what our world looks like now.
They wouldn't even recognize it as the same place.
And by many objective indicators,
our lives are incomparably better now
than they were then.
We live longer, we suffer less,
we're more socially equal,
we can travel all across the world,
and most of us have consistent sources
of safe water, food, and shelter.
There have been countless setbacks for humanity
since we were building structures like Stonehenge.
But we've overcome them all.
And in the same way,
you can, and you will,
overcome any setback in your own life.
So in these moments, where it feels like everything is going wrong,
let's not forget that we're on a journey.
Together, we're on the journey of life.
And our collective goal is always to make the collective life.
