Hello everyone, and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast Where Morning People Are Made. I'm Tyler, your host, and I'm so pleased to have you here with me this morning. Now, as I'm sure you know, life always has its ups and downs. In this quick bit of morning motivation, we'll let go of trying to control those peaks and valleys, and instead, we'll just enjoy riding the wave. Let's go ahead and get started.
Starting point is 00:00:52 If you're joining us from bed this morning, then take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, roll over, and make your way to standing up. We have a whole world of opportunity lying ahead of us today. So, let's not waste a single moment of it. And wherever you are, whether you just got out of bed or if you're already going through your day, let's all take another deep breath together. So inhale, collecting any worries or concerns you might have, and then exhale and just let them all go, send them to the wind. And again, wherever you are, let's all take a big stretch together. and I want you to do whatever feels good for you.
Starting point is 00:01:57 Listen to your body and just follow its natural inclinations to stretch out what you think needs a little loosening. Use this moment to take care of your body a little bit. It's all you've got after all. All right, so feel free to keep stretching if you'd like. But otherwise, feel free to get started with your morning routine. Have a glass of water. make your morning coffee.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Go ahead and do your thing. And while you do that, I want to share a little story from my week. I had a busy one, dealing with all kinds of stuff, from work to car issues. And to be honest, I was a little run down from it all.
Starting point is 00:03:05 But I managed to just keep my nose to the grindstone because, well, I didn't really have another option. And then, on Friday, multiple good things popped up out of nowhere. And they were all related to what I'd been working so hard on all week. And I thought, wow, well, this is great. Of course, it was a nice way to end a long week. But what struck me more was how I'd been shown very clearly that my hard work through tough moments had done.
Starting point is 00:03:42 paid off. And though I had worked hard during the week leading up to that, this was hard work from the prior months and years, all paying off. Now, that happens all the time in life. Moments of good, balanced by moments of not so good. We just usually don't have immediate feedback. Usually, the return on our investments of time and effort are reaped months or years later. For example, if you want to lose weight, exercising today only isn't going to make a difference. You have to do it consistently for quite a while, weeks, months, years. Or if you want to climb the ladder of your company, again, you have to work hard for a long, time to do that. But occasionally, in moments like I had this week, we are reminded that our
Starting point is 00:04:46 investments of time and effort will, undeniably, bring some sort of return. What you put your time and effort into will come back to you. The thing is, we will never know when those returns arise. It might be a month or a year or two from now. It might turn out to be tomorrow. I don't know, that's for sure. And neither do you. The other day when all of this was sinking in for me, a metaphor came to mind,
Starting point is 00:05:20 and I thought it to be pretty fitting for this message. Have you ever been to the beach, swimming and floating around in the ocean, bobbing through the waves? You know how sometimes a wave will look like it's going to be huge, but then it shrivels into nothing. or conversely, a wave will look like it's small, but then it gains a hidden momentum and turns out to be a big one.
Starting point is 00:05:51 It struck me that our returns in life are much like the waves. They can surprise us. They are fueled by forces beyond our own vision, our own understanding, and beyond our control. And what we really need to do is just make sure we ride, the waves we want and enjoy them for what they are without caring so much about how they turn out. Friends, we all hope to enjoy the returns of our hard work, of our time and effort. I'm here to remind you, don't ever doubt that you will see those returns.
Starting point is 00:06:41 But let's not forget that we only control one thing, our own input into a situation. There's a myriad of factors, far out of our control, that will affect when and how much of a return we will see. We can't let ourselves get frustrated, upset, or stressed about the results. If what you're choosing to do is worth it in and of itself, then the exact results that come don't really matter. If you're trying to lose weight, who cares if you lose 15 versus 20? 20 pounds. The point is that taking care of yourself and being healthy is a fantastic way to
Starting point is 00:07:27 spend your time. If you're trying to climb the ladder of your company, who cares if you become director of this or vice president of that? If the work you do brings you value and fulfillment in and of itself, then the title you do it under is completely insignificant. My friends, All of this is to say that if you want to ride the wave, then just ride it. It's impossible to predict exactly how any wave will evolve as it moves toward shore. But one thing is for sure, all waves lead to shore. And if you're enjoying yourself along the way, then it sounds to me like you've already won. And don't forget, there will be ups and downs.
Starting point is 00:08:20 That's the nature of waves. They rise and they fall, sometimes unexpectedly. But that's okay, because again, if you enjoy the act of riding a wave, then you've got nothing to lose. So friends, release your expectations of the returns you hope to get from your time and effort. Instead, do things that inherently bring you value, regardless of what you think you think, you might get out of them later. Yes, keep working hard. Keep devoting yourself to the things and people you love. But you know what? Relax a little. Enjoy yourself. Ride the wave and stop worrying about everything else so much. Well, that's all I've got for today, friends. Thanks so much for
Starting point is 00:09:22 joining me here today. I hope that bit of motivation helps you to have more fun while you chase your dreams. I'll talk to you all next week, and until then, I hope you have a wonderful day. I really hope you enjoyed this episode. A good morning is such a gift, isn't it? It's the key to a happier and more productive day, and ultimately a better life. And that's why I make this show. So if you're a enjoying it, why not send one of your favorite episodes to a friend? You never know. You might just make their day and change their life.
