Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where morning people are made.
I'm Tyler, your host, and I'm so glad to have you back for day two of our seven-day challenge.
Yesterday, we collected the details of our current lives.
We took an accounting and figured out the status quo.
We took ownership of where we're at.
Today, we'll organize all of that.
Decide what's most important to us.
And we'll begin to lay the outset.
outline of the future changes and growth we have in mind.
Simply put, today will be about prioritizing.
I will be the first person to remind you that you can do anything you want in life.
You can't do everything.
That's the catch.
You have to choose.
Time is your only limit.
So prioritizing is one of the most important.
skills of succeeding at anything.
So, before we get up and get started, take one moment to recognize how amazing it is that you
live in a world where you have the choice to prioritize what you want to do with your life.
You have the time to make changes, to grow and become someone better than you are right now.
even though I already know you're amazing.
You truly have a special opportunity.
So let's not waste another moment of it.
Take a big breath in and on your exhale,
roll over and make your way to standing up.
Now that we're all up and out of bed,
let's do a couple quick stretches.
And like always, only take part if you're physically able.
If you want to do something else or you need to do something else,
then by all means, feel free to do that.
If you're going to come with me,
then we're going to start by drawing big circles with our arms,
and we'll start with the right side.
And you're just going to rotate your arm all the way around its range of motion,
like it's a windmill,
going to the front, up, and down,
and all the way around in a circle just like that.
Go nice and slow,
but make sure you're stretching the entire range of motion of your shoulder.
After you've done a few circles in one direction,
pause and draw those circles in the opposite direction.
Okay, let your right arm relax back down,
and let's do the same thing with the left side.
So draw those big circles just like your arm is a windmill.
nice and slow
all the way around
your range of motion.
All right, now that you've done a few in one direction,
pause, and go in the other direction a couple of times.
Relax your left arm back down.
Take a big breath in,
fill all the way into your belly,
and reach your arms to the sky,
reach all the way out of your shoulders.
And on your exhale,
fold forward at your waist,
Let everything relax and hang towards the ground.
Now slowly roll all the way back up to standing,
and when you get there,
roll your shoulders up, back, and down.
Okay, so that's all for our quick stretch this morning.
If you want to do more stretches,
by all means, feel free to press pause
and come back whenever you're ready.
If you're all set and you want to move on,
then go ahead and find a comfortable seat.
But make sure you bring that piece of paper you worked on yesterday,
the one you were writing on for our brainstorming exercise.
We'll work on the back of that piece of paper today.
If you want to use a new piece of paper, by all means, be my guest.
What we're going to do today is go back through the brainstorming we did yesterday
and select a couple of things that are the most important,
the things we want to focus on at this point,
in our lives. So, once you're seated and you have that piece of paper and something to write with,
look back over your brainstorming. Try to find what your priorities are. What resonates with you?
What are the problems you want to solve? What are the positives you want to seek out more of?
And here's a hint. You can often find good ones in the last question we did, that last category
about holes and gaps, things that you feel like you're missing.
That's usually a good place to find a priority or two.
And once you start to figure them out, just write them down,
and you don't need to prioritize them or rank them yet.
We just want to narrow the list, and let's pick three things.
That's a nice round number,
and it gives you the opportunity to grow in a couple different directions.
Now that you have those three priorities,
Those three areas you want to focus on in your life.
Make sure they're nice in general,
so it can be improving your health or losing weight
or learning to play a musical instrument.
It could also be getting a raise at your job or finding a new job.
My point is, don't make them too specific of a goal just yet.
We want this to be a broader area that you want to pursue.
And once you have those three things, just close your eyes.
I'm going to teach you a very simple trick.
It's not perfect, but it can really help you figure out how you're feeling about something.
So with your eyes closed, just follow your breath for a moment.
Feel that rise and fall.
Allow yourself to relax.
Soften your face, relax your jaw, let your shoulders drop.
And what you're going to do here is practice saying that this thing is a priority.
And you'll just repeat that to yourself.
The point is to test it out and see how it feels.
Does it feel right?
Does it feel authentic?
And all you need to do is repeat to yourself,
I spend my time blank and fill in the blank with whatever that priority
is. So, again, if you wanted to lose weight, you might say, I spend my time taking care of my health,
or I spend my time making sure I get enough exercise every day. You can phrase it in different ways.
This is an experiment. So give yourself room and permission to try out different things.
See this as being in a clothing store
and trying on different clothes before you buy them.
We want to make sure it feels right.
So do this with the first of the priorities you have.
Just for a moment.
And then I'll tell you when you can switch to the next.
Now let's move to the second of those priorities.
And you're just going to do the same thing.
Trying out different words and phrases.
seeing how this feels.
So for example,
I spend my time
learning to play songs on guitar.
Now let's move to that third priority,
doing the exact same thing,
trying out this idea
and seeing how it feels.
Now you can stop.
Let your mind reset.
Come back to your breath.
Give your fingers and toes a little wiggle.
Take one more big inhale.
and on your exhale, open your eyes.
Okay, friends, so we've just come up with some priorities,
some areas we'd like to focus on in this current phase of life.
And we tried them on.
We got to see how they feel,
whether it sounds right for us to say this about ourselves.
And maybe you're feeling more excited about them.
But maybe one or two of them didn't feel right.
Well, that's okay.
because you have a whole list of other ideas,
of other things you might want to pursue.
So if something didn't settle right with you,
or later today it doesn't settle right with you,
you can always come back and change.
You can try this again.
And just because you have these priorities today
doesn't mean there'll be your priorities in a year.
You always have the freedom to change.
So don't feel stuck to this right now.
How we live our lives says far more about us than our words ever will.
What you put into action makes you who you are.
Over time, you will become what you spend your time doing.
And you'll be like the people you spend most of your time with.
So as you sit here in this moment of assessment, planning, and preparation, you have
a fantastic opportunity, to make adjustments to your life on a grand scale.
By changing what you do today, you will fundamentally change who you are tomorrow,
and that only becomes exponentially greater the more time you add.
So consider seriously what you want to prioritize.
Aside from actually taking action, this is perhaps the most of the most important.
important aspect of our entire seven-day challenge because you're deciding where you want to go,
what you want to spend your time on, how you want to focus your energy. And don't feel pressure
because of this. Rather, feel excitement. Feel the grandeur of opportunity that lies at your feet.
You truly can do anything you want.
Create a life of your own design and your own desire.
And don't forget, you have the freedom to change as you go.
That is the beauty.
It's always a work in progress.
One day, if you decide you want to do something else, then great.
You can change and do that instead.
This, my friends, is the beauty,
of freedom in life.
So give yourself that right.
You deserve it.
You are a changing, growing being,
and you should always feel free to be who you are today,
not who you were yesterday.
So as you go about your day,
continue pondering on this.
What do you want to prioritize right now in your life?
What do you want to spend your time on?
because this ultimately will define who you become.
Thank you so much for tuning in again for this second day of our challenge.
I'm so glad you've made it this far,
and I know it's only going to get better as we go.
I'll talk to you tomorrow.
