Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where morning people are made. I'm Tyler, your host as usual. And I'm so glad to have you back for the fourth day of our seven-day New Year challenge. Today is all about believing in yourself. I will be the first to tell you that you are capable of anything if you put in the time and effort necessary.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Friends, we all have subconscious limits placed on us throughout life, but especially in childhood. We're often completely blind to these. So much about succeeding at anything in life is about unlearning these false limits. A great example of this is a story I think I've told on the show before, but it bears repeating. And it's the story of the mighty and intelligent elephant.
Starting point is 00:01:22 When people are training an elephant from youth, they'll attach it to a pole. And this pole is too strong for the young elephant to knock over, to free itself from. And so the elephant as a child learns not to try. It thinks that it will always be too weak, too small, to overpower this pole. But that's not true, because eventually that elephant becomes an adult. It's mighty, it's powerful, and this pole is no match for it.
Starting point is 00:02:01 But the elephant is limited by the belief it formed as a child, and it simply won't even try to free itself from the pole. It doesn't think it's capable. So today and every day, consider the ways that you might be limited like this. The things that someone may have told you as a child that stuck with you for some reason, but are completely false.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Most of the time, people don't mean to hurt us. They don't mean to limit us. They're just reflecting their own pain. But someone else's pain and someone else's limits are not for you to bear. So today, we're going to work on freeing ourselves from those limits. We'll practice believing in ourselves. So, if you're still in bed, take a big breath and on your exhale, roll over, and make your way to standing up. So now that we're all up, let's do a couple of quick stretches
Starting point is 00:03:33 to help wake the body. And of course, you should only join if you're physically able. If you want to do something else too, then you should go do that instead. I take no offense. I want you to do what's best for your body. If you're going to come with me, then today I'm going to teach you a very simple way to alter our usual forward fold stretch in a way that enlivens your body a bit more. It helps to bring more energy to the body. We're just going to do this stretch three or four times. We'll do it slower the first time, and then we'll pick up the pace. And the point is to get the blood flowing more in your body.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Get more oxygen delivered to your muscles and to your brain. So, inhale and reach your hands to the body. the sky. Reach as far as you possibly can. On your exhale, fold forward at your waist. And we'll take a second to hang out here. Let everything hang towards the ground. Nice and easy. Relax your neck. Relax your arms. Loosen it up in whatever way feels right to you. Whether that's swaying side to side, bending one knee and then the other, or just hanging out. All right. Now slowly roll back up to standing, and we'll do this three more times, a little bit faster each time. So inhale, reach your hands to the sky, exhale, fold forward at your waist.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Hang out here, take one full cycle of breath, in and out. And now roll back up to standing, inhale and reach your hands back to the sky. Exhale and fold forward at your waist. One full round of breath, inhale, and exhale. Roll back up to standing. And when you get there one more time, inhale and reach your hands to the sky. Now exhale and fold forward.
Starting point is 00:06:26 One more round of breath here. Inhale, exhale, roll back up to standing. And once you get there, this time, roll your shoulders up, back, and down. All right, so hopefully you're feeling nice and alive, nice and awake now. Let's go ahead and get started with our meditation. So find a comfortable seat and feel free to grab a sip of water or do anything like that along the way.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Today we're going to do some very simple affirmations. And these affirmations are centered around believing in yourself. And all you need to do is repeat them to yourself. You can say it out loud or you can just do it mentally. Either way is perfectly fine. As you do these affirmations, you might get distracted, You might have limiting beliefs come up. And when that happens, that's okay.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Just bring yourself back to those affirmations. You're going to work through them and massage out any doubts that come up. This repetition, this massaging, will put self-belief deeper and deeper into your brain. So, hopefully you've found a nice comfortable seat now. And you're seated upright, but try not. to be tense. You want to be relaxed, okay? Let your shoulders drop down and take a big inhale. On your exhale, close your eyes and just take a moment to get comfortable. Allow your face to soften. Allow your jaw to relax. You can follow the natural rise and fall of your breath here.
Starting point is 00:08:50 And as you do, you'll slowly draw deeper and deeper within. All right. Now let's get started with our affirmations. Here's what they are. I believe in myself. I can accomplish anything if I give it my all. Again, I believe in myself. I can accomplish anything if I give it my all. So keep repeating those affirmations to yourself over and over. And if you get distracted, that's okay. just bring yourself back and keep repeating those affirmations. I believe in myself. I can accomplish anything if I give it my all. And remember, it's okay if doubts come up.
Starting point is 00:11:56 That's completely natural. All of those doubts can be overcome. What you want to do right now is just acknowledge those doubts and bring yourself back to the affirmations. I believe in myself. I can accomplish anything if I give it my all, friends. You can let go of those affirmations now. Bring yourself back to your breath for just a moment before we wrap up.
Starting point is 00:14:52 Now slowly begin to bring yourself back into the room, back into your body. Feel the chair beneath you and notice your feet on the floor. Give your hands and toes a little wiggle. Take a big breath in as you exhale. Slowly open your eyes and just take a second to gather yourself. We are so often blind to the things that hold us back. It's only by testing the boundaries that we realize they never existed at all. You can't expect to receive something if you don't ask for it.
Starting point is 00:16:27 You can't expect to grow if you don't stretch yourself. You can't expect to break down walls by looking at them. So give yourself the credit you deserve, that you've done exceptionally well with the conditioning you received, except that you've grown up in a world that has limited you in one way or another. Despite that, you've become everything that you are right now, that is quite an accomplishment. But you also need to accept that to become who you want to be, to grow from here, you will have to test limits, push more boundaries,
Starting point is 00:17:14 and be uncomfortable. The simple fact is that you would already be who you want to be if you weren't being limited by something before you can make any progress. You have to know that you can progress. My friends, you have to believe in yourself. That's all for today's episode. I really appreciate you tuning in and joining me here. You're over halfway done with this seven-day challenge, so give yourself a pat on the back.
Starting point is 00:17:59 I'll talk to you tomorrow for day five. And until then, go out. believe in yourself and make the most of this absolutely wonderful day.
