You don't rise to your goals.
You fall to your habits.
Most people spend their whole life trying to do more
when the real shift is in being more.
Today, I'm going to share the one mindset change
that's so simple, you could start using it before breakfast.
But it has the power to completely transform how you show up in life
and the meaning and results you get from it.
I'll tell you all about it.
And I'll also tell you how it helped me go from a soul-sucking career I hated to building something that I love and fully supports me.
And how you can use it too to change your life starting right now.
You see, I used to be an attorney.
And despite how cool that may seem to some people, I'll be honest, I found it terrible.
From the very beginning, it was slowly killing me inside.
I'd sit at a desk from early in the morning till late at night, with fluorescent lights buzzing in my eyes, scrolling through contracts for clients who didn't value me.
Spending all day correcting typos and responding to emails about things I truly couldn't care less about.
Feeling my energy drain and the life run out of me hour by hour.
Every day felt like a transaction.
trading my time and well-being directly for a paycheck.
And although the paycheck was objectively good,
the longer I stayed in this career,
the more it felt like I was wasting and losing my life.
And perhaps unexpectedly, when you're in this type of situation,
the brain looks for ways to escape.
A lot of those thoughts were unproductive.
Some of them were helpful, but there was one that changed everything.
And it may not seem like a lot.
But hear me out, and you'll see why this simple question was the catalyst for the greatest change in my life.
And maybe it will be for yours too.
See, up until I had that thought, I would ask myself, what do I need to do to get out of this situation?
and I would spend my time formulating all of these plans and ideas on how to change.
But then one day, I started asking the question just a little bit differently.
And it was something like this.
Who do I need to be today so that this life doesn't fit me anymore tomorrow?
That was the shift.
It was the most powerful mindset change I'd.
I've ever experienced.
You see, when you focus only on doing,
you get stuck in repetitive cycles,
where you think, if I just do a little bit more,
then I can break through this wall or overcome this obstacle.
But what you're missing is that the environment,
the habits, the story,
and the identity you're holding around all that doing
is still the same.
You don't need to do anything more.
In fact, you probably should be doing less.
And most importantly, you need to be something else.
When you focus on being the kind of person who lives the life you want to live,
your habits, your standards, your beliefs, priorities, and results will all change.
For me, that meant being someone who valued my own time,
being someone who invested in my health, my well-being,
being someone who believed in my ideas,
and that my voice and presence had value inherently.
Once I started acting like that person,
the end was in sight for my work in the legal field.
Not because it got any worse,
it actually became more tolerable.
But within days, it became clear that I had outgrown this phase of my life.
And that I was not only ready for the next phase,
but that I would thrive as soon as I began it.
And that's what pushed me to make the leap into leaving the law.
And shortly thereafter, I started this very channel,
wake me up, where every day I get to help people live happier, healthier, and more intentional
lives. And the best thing about it is that it's made me happier and more fulfilled in the process.
I enjoy what I do every day, even though at some moments, of course, it still feels like work.
And not to mention, I actually do better now through all of my content creation endeavor.
than I ever did as a lawyer.
Don't let finances be the sole goal in your life.
Just let it serve as additional proof
about the importance of this mindset shift.
So let me restate that shift
and make it as simple as it can possibly be
so that you can use it in your own life.
Focus less on working towards your goals.
And instead, focus to do you.
today on being the type of person who would be living out those goals.
Ask yourself, if I was already living my dream life, how would I think today?
How would I act?
How would I carry myself?
What would my habits be?
And who would I surround myself with?
And once you have that idea of who you would be, then simply start being them.
And it doesn't have to be big things.
Maybe it just means bringing excellence to every little habit you already have,
like brushing your teeth and cooking your dinner.
Maybe it means prioritizing time with one group of people versus another.
That's the beauty of it.
You don't have to make massive changes and overhaul your life overnight.
You can and should start small.
because once you start being the person who's living in your dream life, the doing becomes effortless.
You see, when I was being a lawyer, all I was doing was lawyer stuff.
And as soon as I started being something else, I freed myself from that identity and that story.
And this is what actually catalyzes change.
You have to start being something else, and then you release the old identity, and you start
writing a new story.
So think now about that new story you'd like to write.
And you may not know the answer to that fully yet, and that's okay.
Just use the details you already know.
Because even just beginning to imagine it proves that that version is.
already inside of you.
All you have to do is start being them.
