Starting point is 00:00:01 If you'd like to enjoy Wake Me Up completely ad-free and get access to exclusive bonus content, check out the link in the show notes for the Wake Me Up premium feed. Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up. I'm Tyler, your host, as usual. I'm trialing a new format on Wake Me Up this week. Today will be a wake-up and stretch episode. Tomorrow, Tuesday, we'll do a meditation, and Wednesday will be a motivation. Today is the only episode that will get you out of bed, though.
Starting point is 00:00:37 I'm trying this out after receiving a bunch of helpful feedback from all of you. My hope is that this new format is more flexible. It will allow you to playlist multiple episodes to create exactly the morning routine you want. And this week, all of the episodes will be on the theme of clearing your mind. So, on that note, wherever you are, just pause for a second. Whatever you have coming up today and whatever happened yesterday, just put those aside for now. And take a deep breath in, filling all the way up, hold at the top, and exhale. Once more now, inhale, filling even deeper into your belly.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Hold and exhale release. There's a brand new day laid out before you. What do you want from this day? What's your intention with these next 24 hours? Maybe you have something specific to accomplish. Maybe you just want to try something new. Relax. Or just have some fun.
Starting point is 00:02:09 Whatever it is, center in on an intention for the day. All right, hopefully you've got your intention for today. Now look a little farther down the road. What might be your intention for this week? Again, maybe you have something specific in mind, but maybe you have something just broad, like balance or rest, or even indulgence. You could make whatever you want out of this day and this week. So center your thoughts on these intentions.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Take a big inhale and collect energy to support that intention. And then on your exhale, release anything that doesn't serve your intention. Again, inhale, centering on that intention. Exhale, letting go of anything that doesn't further your intention. And one last time, inhale, collecting your intention for the week and for the day. And exhale, releasing anything that doesn't serve your intentions. Friends, we have so many distractions in our lives. So many things are grabbing for our attention and our time.
Starting point is 00:04:11 But this life is yours. It's a gift that's been given to you. And that doesn't mean you should be overly selfish or ignore or hurt other people. But it does mean you should set your own direction. You should follow your own lead. And to do that, you must be able to keep your mind as clear as it can be from other distractions. So as you go about your day, remember the intention that you set. Let it be your guide.
Starting point is 00:04:43 the compass to steer you clear of distractions and keep you headed in the right direction, in your direction. Now on that note, there's another chance at life waiting for you. Let's not allow it to slip away any longer. So take a big inhale and on your exhale, if you're in bed, roll over, and make your way to standing up. All right, now that we're all standing, we're going to move to a stretch. As always, don't do these stretches if you're not able. I try to make them stretches that most people can do, but we're all different.
Starting point is 00:05:40 So if my stretches don't work for you, please feel free to do your own. Let's start today with our wrists. Just rolling out your wrist in big circles, nice and slow, one hand at a time. Do a few in one direction, and then pause and roll your wrist out in the other side. other direction. All right, now switch hands and roll out your other wrist a few times. Pause and switch directions. Let your hands relax down by your sides. Stand up straight, reaching the crown of your head towards the ceiling, and then just let your head fall over your right shoulder. So you feel a nice stretch down the left side of your neck. Hang out here for just a second
Starting point is 00:07:02 and let your neck release. And remember, as you're warming your body up, try to focus just on being here and now. Pay attention to your body. Your to-do list and any other things you have to do today can wait a few more minutes. All right, now bring your neck back to center, crown of your head towards the ceiling.
Starting point is 00:07:30 We're going to do that to the opposite side. So let your head fall over to your left shoulder. feeling a stretch down the right side of your neck. All right, bring your head back to center, crown towards the ceiling. And now we're going to use our hands. Just warm up the face a little bit. We often hold a lot of tension in our neck,
Starting point is 00:08:12 our forehead, and our jaw. So we're just going to loosen that up a little bit before the day starts. So taking your hands, just begin to lightly massage your forehead. experiment, find the places on your forehead that are calling for a little attention. And you can do it in circles, you can do it side to side, figure out what works best for you. All right, now move to your temples, to the sides of your head, just above and in front of your ears.
Starting point is 00:08:52 And slowly massage there on both sides. Now move your hands to your jaw, especially that point where your jaw connects to your skull. just slightly in front and below your ears. Again, just lightly massaging out the muscles here. All right, last place is the neck. Bring your hands to your neck and just gently massage the back and sides. Again, loosening things up is all we're doing.
Starting point is 00:09:42 By massaging, blood flow is directed to the area. Those muscles will warm up, and by warming up, they'll both become awake and relaxed. All right, relax both hands back down. One final stretch, a big forward fold. So take a full inhale and reach all the way to the sky. On your exhale, fold forward at your waist.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Let everything relax and hang towards the ground. Maybe you have a little bend in your knee, maybe sway side to side, or maybe you just sit perfectly still. This is your stretch. Do it however you'd like. We'll sit here for about 30 seconds. Take a full round of breath while you're here.
Starting point is 00:10:56 Inhale. Enjoying these last few moments of quiet. And exhale. Now slowly begin to roll all the way back up to standing. And when you get there, give a big final roll to your shoulders. Up. Well, friends, our time is up.
Starting point is 00:11:30 I hope your body and mind. are nice and warm and ready to start the day. Remember the intention you set for this day and this week. Soon, we'll all be turning to our list of to-dos. But as we start taking care of life's necessities, let's stick to our intention, that direction we set for ourselves. And instead of letting our to-do lists lead our lives,
Starting point is 00:11:58 let's ask, how can our intentions, lead our to-do lists. So I'll talk to you tomorrow for our meditation. Until then, I hope you go out and have a fantastic day.
